nails of the world

I honestly feel like the importance of Earth Day and the surrounding initiatives are becoming more and more important as the years go by and the state of our environment becomes more dire. For me, I think it's really important that we stop and think about the big picture and, while I certainly think that we as individuals have personal responsibility to make the best choices we can in regards to the environment, it's also profoundly important that we start acknowledging the larger implications of industry on the environment and stop allowing profit to be prioritized over the future of the planet and the wellbeing of all living creatures on it. For me, that's where my attention will be focused this earth day and I hope that moving forward more and more focus is put where it needs to be put to make real change.

Going into this mani, I knew two things. The first was that I wanted to do an earth inspired mani with a smoosh for the water and stamping from the Whats Up Nails B068 Totally Spaced Out Stamping Plate for the land masses. And the second was that I wanted to use as mani Dimension Nails products as I could for this mani, since they have such a focus on activism related to animal welfare and the environment, which makes them the perfect brand to focus on for Earth Day. Also... they have some of the most stunning blue polishes in my collection, which is wildly convenient.

I decided to go with four different blue polishes for this smoosh because I wanted to get a good amount of dimension without having to add any other colors to the mix. I went with a sort of ashy teal leaning blue, a rich azure, a deep cobalt, and finally a shimmery neutral medium blue for some added texture and shine. I started by applying one coat of the teal shade to all of my nails as my base and then applied a latex cuticle barrier to make cleanup easier. Next, I applied dots of all four shades to a stamper head and then pounced it onto my nail until I got the marbling that I was looking for.

How Social Media Is Shaping Nail Care Trends

As I said, I knew that I was going to do this sort of globe style design using this new plate from Whats Up Nails, but I also knew that I could really only fill three nails with the world map design, so I had to do a little bit of on the fly planning - and I will admit that it didn't go exactly the way I was planning and I did have to redo my pointer finger. I decided to apply the map design to my middle, ring and pinkie fingers to start. It just made the most sense to me and I felt like those three fingers would carry the design best. Initially, I applied a text image from the same stamping plate to my pointer finger and the sort of swirly stars image to my thumb, but in the end I didn't like the text for this design so I ended up redoing that finger with the swirly design as well.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I took my time cleaning up the excess and crisping up my edges. Even with the cuticle barrier, there is definitely some clean up from a smoosh. Next, I sealed in the design with a nail art top coat before finishing with a generous layer of quick dry glossy top coat. And voila!

If you, like me, have been looking for a stamping plate with a world map on it, I definitely recommend checking out the Whats Up Nails B068 Totally Spaced Out Stamping Plate*. On top of the world map image, it has some great space themed designs perfect for galaxy designs. Also, if you're looking for some beautiful - and I mean absolutely stunningly beautiful - polishes from a brand that focuses on and prioritizes the well being of animals and the environment, I also highly recommend checking out Dimension Nails because they are just an absolutely phenomenal indie polish brand.

Looking at Tomoya Nakagawa’s incredible nail designs, you’d probably imagine that he’s been carefully honing his craft from a number of years. Well, you’d be totally wrong, given that the Tokyo-born creative was working as a fisherman until very recently – February of this year to be exact.

After moving to New York, Nakagawa was influenced by his partner and fellow Community member Eichi Matsunaga into trying out nail art and the results are truly awe-inspiring. From double helix shapes to delicate Dior logos, Nakagawa’s signature is creating delicate, almost microscopic amoeba blobs that look like they’re growing out of the nail.

Elsewhere, his oversized nail chips can be filled with anything from sand and shells to green slime. “It makes me happy to see people get surprised when they see my artwork, ” he explains to Dazed Beauty. “That motivates me to make something even more interesting for the next piece.”

Though Nakagawa is capturing Instagram’s attention with his designs, don’t expect him to be making art forever; he’s already got his eyes on his next creative venture. “My next profession I plan to become is a firework artist, Japanese firework artists are really amazing, ” he says. “After that I would definitely like to be a singer and a Kaleidoscope artist.”

Here, we speak with Nakagawa about life as a fisherman, finding beauty in nature, and why he wants everyone to be a part of the

Nail Strengthener And World Lit Polish From Olive & June

Tomoya Nakagawa: I grew up in an environment where there was lots of surrounding nature, even in Tokyo. My father was in the garment industry and my mother owned a hair salon business. While I was a student, Tokyo was a very stimulating place with lots of different cultures. The ‘Japanese Gal culture’ in Shibuya was the first encounter I had.

Tomoya Nakagawa: After graduating, I worked in fashion as well as starting my swim float product and I was also a fisherman. I had many different experiences but now I’m a nail artist. I started after being influenced by my partner Eichi Matsunaga when I moved to New York in February 2020.

Tomoya Nakagawa: Taking on new challenges is fun and I get very excited. I like to see things I’ve never seen before and I love beautiful and unusual things – I would love for my artwork to achieve that.

Before I moved to New York, I was a fisherman on a small island called Kii ÅŒshima in Japan. Every day I would spend time on the beautiful ocean and the experience I had at the time is naturally reflected in my work.

Tomoya Nakagawa: Nail with sand – I used a 3D printer and created a hollow nail chip and then put sand and shells I found at the beach inside.

Collaboration with Eichi Matsunaga – I created the centre winding flower piece using gel under a UV light to make the sculpture. This is an original method I came up with and I get so many questions about it, so I’m planning on making a How To video.

Tomoya Nakagawa: Unfortunately my career is still very short and I don’t have a masterpiece yet. Eventually, after I’ve created everything and I’m satisfied with all the artwork, I would like to quit being a nailist.

Tomoya Nakagawa: I’m currently making nails for a music video for an artist I really like and creating new nail designs. It’s not out yet, but I also did nails for a popular artist and I’m working on unique and original nail chips and parts so look out for it!

Fluffy Clouds Are Taking Over The Nail World

Tomoya Nakagawa: There are many times but especially when the skies are clear and I dive into the ocean, the sparkles are very beautiful. Also sometimes at sunset, when the sun turns purple. I feel very special when I see a purple sunset.
